Pixler/TFHC update

November 22nd, 2006

I’ve successfully ported TFHC to MySQL4.x/PHP4 (View-less query and DOMXML code). chat.sudrien.net currently has a copy running. If the time in the top corner is updating, IT WORKS.

Tested with FF1.0+, IE6. IE7 looks like it works.

It looks like I might port it to dojo (off Sarissa, and opposed to prototype) for two reasons:

Why dojo.gfx? Because a Pixler add-on to TFHC would make it somthing of a paintchat, which would run on a low-end shared hosting environment without need for browser plugins. According to my plan.

I’ve made some minor attempts otherwise, based off the <canvas /> element. Mark Finkle Has a nice listing of some other JavaScript-based alternatives (read: I can’t find the link I was thinking of).

At issue: None of the pure canvas examples seem to support IE. Enter ExplorerCanvas - Which apparently uses IE’s VML capability to add such support. However, ExCanvas does not (yet?) support IE7 - Nor does it look like there is much movement on the code over the past bit in response to it’s release; four months was plenty of time if this code were actually used, say, on google maps, With the IE betas and all.

Or perhaps breaking htc components is another “security” feature >.>;;

-Sud.
